Theatre Workshop: Undeniable Ideas with Jules Orcullo

As an artist, dramaturg, and educator, Jules has encountered tens of thousands of ideas for the stage and has developed tools for understanding the ingredients of undeniable theatrical ideas according to key unspoken values in contemporary English-speaking, text-based theatre. In this practical, fast-paced workshop, you will learn these ingredients by generating and shaping theatrical ideas of your own.

Jules Orcullo is a playwright, songwriter and dramaturg. She won the 2024 Griffin Award for outstanding new Australian playwriting for My Dad Never Saw The Beatles and currently works as Dramaturg at Sydney Theatre Company.

While the perspectives in the workshop can be applied to all disciplines within all narrative media, the focus of the workshop will be on writing for theatre. Writers of all levels of experience with playwriting and levels of familiarity with theatre are welcome. You will be writing so please bring your preferred writing tools (pen and paper, a charged laptop, Notes app).

Please be advised that the workshop will not cover pitching or the process of communicating ideas to industry. Rather, participants will be guided in writing ideas ready for further creative exploration.

Please advise us of your access requirements.
