Community Grants

Burwood Council makes funds available under its annual Community Services Grants Program to organisations and groups within the Burwood Local Government Area (LGA), or those working for the local community, to provide additional services and programs.

Burwood Council makes funds available under its annual Community Services Grants Program to organisations and groups within the Burwood Local Government Area (LGA), or those working for the local community, to provide additional services and programs. The funding program assists Council to achieve strategic objectives outlined in the Community Strategic Plan, Burwood2030, through supporting local community services.

To encourage the development and implementation of collaborative community-based programs and projects that address identified social needs and provide benefits to the residents in the Burwood LGA.

 

In order to be eligible for funding, applicant organisations must be:

  • Not-for-profit
  • An incorporated body or be auspiced by an incorporated body
  • Providing services or delivering projects in the Burwood LGA
  • Able to demonstrate they have acquitted any previous grants from Council

 

  • Applicant organisations must meet the eligibility criteria
  • Applications must address the Grants Program Objective
  • Applications must be aligned with at least one of the key strategic goals of Council’s Community Strategic Plan – Burwood2030 (refer to summary on page two – the full plan is available online at www.burwood.nsw.gov.au)
  • Applications, whether submitted online, via email or post, must be completed in full and be received by Council by the closing date – late applications will not be considered.
  • Projects must not duplicate existing programs or services
  • Projects must benefit the local community
  • Grants are designed to provide funding for one-off projects and there will be no commitment from Council for ongoing funding for the same project
  • Demonstration of the acquittal of any previous Council grant

 

Key Strategic Goals 

  • A well informed and supported and engaged community.
  • A community which celebrates diversity.
  • A sense of community pride.

 Priority Areas for Projects

  • Projects that support and/or increase participation in volunteering.
  • Local research projects that identify emerging needs/issues or strengthen local service delivery.
  • Programs or activities that promote interaction and communication between different cultural groups.
  • Intergenerational programs or projects that improve connections between young and older people.
  • Community development projects that engage the community in local environmental initiatives and/or sustainability principles.
  • Projects that facilitate the participation of people with a disability and their carers in local activities and services.

Partnership projects that strengthen capacity between organisations to work collaboratively on issues affecting their communities (Note, this can include working with Council on local initiatives.)

Note:
Further priority will be given to community development projects that have the potential for medium to longer term benefits.

 

 

 

  • Purchasing major equipment
  • Recurrent salary costs or contributions to salary costs of existing positions in an organisation
  • Political purposes or religious instruction
  • Money that has already been spent or projects already undertaken
  • Projects being conducted by an organisation which has substantial unallocated resources
  • Projects being conducted by individual persons, commercial enterprises or government agencies
  • Projects that anticipate ongoing funding from Burwood Council beyond the current year

The project you are applying for must not be a core service that is funded by another source e.g. Federal or State Government. 

 

  1. All applications will be assessed by Council’s Community Services Officers according to the Eligibility and Selection Criteria. Final funding decisions are made by the Council.
  2. Priority of applications will be determined by the following:
    • Alignment with one of the key strategic goals of Council’s Community Strategic Plan
    • Innovative or new programs that address an identified community need
    • Partnership projects that strengthen capacity between organisations to work collaboratively on issues affecting their communities, or that enhance the capacity of the local community to address local issues
    • Emerging and/or unfunded organisations and groups
    • Community development projects that will have medium to longer term benefits
  3. Recommendations for approval will be made by Council in the 4th quarter of the financial year (March to June 2021).
  4. Applicants will be notified of the outcome by email following Council’s adoption of the recommendations.
