A worker who illegally dumped tree branches at a Burwood park has been identified by Burwood Council officers and his employer given a hefty fine.

The worker dumped the branches from a ute at Wyatt Avenue Park, Burwood, on July 17 at 11.42am.

Burwood Council waste investigation officers were able to trace the man and issued a fine and clean-up notice to his employer.

The employer, a man from Merrylands, then contacted the council. He said he asked for the waste to be disposed of legally, and had dealt with the employee.

The employer had removed the rubbish from the park.

He has agreed to pay the clean-up notice administration fee of $550, and the littering fine of $250.

Burwood Mayor John Faker said protecting the environment was a priority for the council and praised the vigilance of rangers.

“If you are thinking of dumping rubbish around Burwood, we’re putting you on notice,” he said.

“Our residents value their environment, and we will not tolerate those who don’t respect it.”

Dumping is illegal and council encourages residents who see such acts to report them on 9911 9911.
