Welcome to

Burwood Council

Identified as a major centre by the NSW Government, Burwood is set to grow significantly in the next 25 years, taking advantage of the area’s strong local economy and excellent transport infrastructure.

Council is committed not only to maximising the area’s growth, but to ensuring that Burwood remains an exciting and vibrant place to live, work and visit.

We have already completed an extensive program of public works, including improvements to Burwood Park, the Avenue of Nations and surrounding street scapes.

Mayor's Message

From Cr John Faker

I am proud of the achievements we have made a Council during the past financial year while continuing to deliver a high level of service to our community.

In particular, Council undertook a range of projects and initiatives including the opening of stage 2 of Wangal Park, completion of the Woodstock Centre restoration works and a successful program of civic events including Burwood Festival, Carols in the Park, Australia Day and Lunar New Year.

Our Community

Sandakan Remembrance Service

The Sandakan Remembrance Service provides our community with a moment to reflect on one of the darkest moments in our nation's history which took place in Borneo during World War II.

Burwood has a strong connection to the atrocities that occurred in the Prisoner of War camps and Death Marches with 23 men from the Burwood area never returning home from service.

Join us on Sunday, 6 August at 11am in Burwood Park as we honour the fallen.
