Identified as a Major Centre by the NSW Government, Burwood is set to grow significantly in the next 25 years, taking advantage of the area’s strong local economy and excellent transport infrastructure.

Council is committed not only to maximising the area’s growth, but to ensuring that Burwood remains an exciting and vibrant place to live, work and visit.

We have already completed an extensive program of public works, including improvements to Burwood Park, the Avenue of Nations and surrounding  streetscapes.

Burwood is geographically and strategically at the centre of the Inner West, it’s a commercial hub and at the same time a wonderful residential area among the best in Sydney.

Face of Burwood

Russ Kenny has lived in Burwood for 59 years. He has been a foundation member of the Sandakan Community Education Committee and has carried out the duties of Master of Ceremonies since the committee's inception. Russ is the President of Enfield RSL sub-branch, President of the District Council of the RSL and incoming president of the Burwood Lions Club. Russ takes an active interest in all Veterans and their dependants, has been awarded life membership of the RSL, the Meritorious Medal and the Centenary Medal for his services. Russ served in the Army as a special Military Police Investigator between 1942 and 1944. He was in Darwin when the city was bombed and spent a year in hospital recovering from his injuries. After serving his country, Russ became a federal investigator.

    Burwood celebrated the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people on July 6. This year’s theme was ‘Unsung Heroes – closing the gap by leading the way’. Unsung Heroes recognises the part played by the quiet achievers both now and in the past.
