Australia’s rich and proud cinematic history has thrilled and delighted audiences for years, and Burwood Council is inviting the community to come and enjoy two recent silver screen hits at our annual ‘Movies in the park’ event.

Gates open from 3:30pm next Wednesday 26 January at Wangal Park. Kick-back and revel in a self-catered picnic in twilight and enjoy a special screening of the Australian masterpieces ‘Ride Like a Girl’ (4:30pm) and ‘Penguin Bloom.’ (7pm)

This family friendly activity is a fantastic way to end your Australia Day Celebrations. It’s COVID safe and although it is a free event for the community a ticket system is in place to ensure that the expected crowd can be managed.

Mayor John Faker said it’s an exciting time for Council to be hosting events again.

“Movies at the Park has proved to be a popular event as it is something that all families can enjoy.

“Understandably there is concern in the community about the staging of events at the moment, but I would like to reassure the community that Council takes its responsibilities very seriously,’” said Cr Faker.

“We successfully staged Movies in the Park last year and that was before the rollout of vaccines. Staff have put in place best-practice COVID safe plans, the event is outdoors, we’re controlling numbers, and there’s plenty of space between people at the park.”

“Any event that brings the community together is always special and we hope that this is just the first of many on our program that will be delivered throughout 2022,” Cr Faker concluded.
