Burwood Council’s new e-planning lodgement system has proved a huge success with reduced processing times and positive community feedback.

We were one of 10 councils chosen to trial receiving all Development Applications via the NSW Planning Portal.

Since going live on 1 January 2020, Council has received 112 viable applications through the portal worth more than $200 million.

Performance data has shown significant improvements in the average number of days it takes Burwood Council to determine development applications.

Council decreased the average processing time from 173 days in 2017-18 to 58 days over the first six months of using the e-planning system (a 300 per cent improvement).

In addition to the conversion to the NSW Planning Portal, the improved processing time was also attributed to Council’s internal systems becoming almost completely automated.

The automation reduced manual processes from 91 to two while also making 32 paper forms redundant.

A recent survey of Burwood Council’s customers who submitted Development Applications online since 1 January found that all respondents preferred the NSW Planning Portal as a lodgement method and all were satisfied with the time it took Council to determine their DA.

NSW Minister for Customer Service Victor Dominello singled out Burwood Council for praise following our adoption of the e-planning system, saying in a Facebook post that our results were “impressive”.
