The Infants Home

The Infants’ Home runs a series of twelve 6-8 week parent education and support programs annually to provide parents and carers with knowledge as well as social, emotional and communication tools to improve their parenting skills.

Courses are often run in collaboration with external expert agencies. The courses can help families be more sensitive to their child’s emotions, better understand their needs, and to be calm and more purposeful in their play and interactions with their child.

Inner West Family Support

A free service for families in stress or in crisis, with children under the age of twelve, living in the council areas of Ashfi­eld, Burwood, City of Canada Bay and Strathfi­eld.

Family Support can Off­er:

Advocacy and referral, where families may be having problems dealing with other agencies.

Group activities. These may be courses to develop skills—in parenting, self-esteem, communication, relationships, play skills for parents and children, money management and household management, among others .

Self-help groups where people share experiences with other in similar situations. This may be helpful where people are experiencing the effects of, for instance—grief, sexual assault or domestic violence.

Specialist Mandarin, Arabic and Farsi speaking workers available.

Activities that help family members to get to know other people, to decrease social isolation and to build supportive networks within communities.

Outreach services available in some suburbs.

Kids @ Weldon

Weldon's Family Support Service works with families across the Inner West of Sydney to build family capacity and enhance the well-being of families and children through the provision of a range of integrated support services focused on delivering positive outcomes for families.

The Summer Hill Service is funded to support and provide intervention to families in response to their unique circumstances and needs.  The service aims to support family functioning, increase the use of positive parenting practices, strengthen the relationship between parents and children, improve knowledge about local services and expand families’ supportive social networks.

Metro Assist provides a number of Early Intervention / Family Support Services that are family focused and child centred. We support the wellbeing of children by helping to build strong parenting skills and stronger families.
