Local history collection

Our research collection includes information on local history, geography, people, places and events. Local resources may also be helpful if you are researching the history of a property. These items are only available for use within the library. Items that have been digitised can be found on our catalogue.

History groups and resources

  • The Burwood and District Family History Group, formed in 1988, brings together people who share an interest in discovering their family stories. Members support each other through shared experience, local knowledge, and a range of helpful resources. Everyone is welcome to join our monthly meetings at Burwood Library on the first Saturday of each month. It’s a great way to connect with others, learn new research tips, and explore your family’s past. Check our agenda for upcoming events and workshops, or contact us to find out more.

  • The Burwood & District Historical Society meets on the second Wednesday of each month (except January) to share and preserve the stories of our local area. New members and visitors are always welcome. For enquiries, please email burwoodhist@yahoo.com.au

  • Visit us for in-library for access to Find My Past — an online family history resource offering BDM records, parish registers, electoral rolls, travel and migration details, military records, newspaper archives, and more. Please note: This is a shared access account, so personal information and family trees should not be saved.
