Australia Day 2023 - A Celebration of Citizenship

On Thursday 26 January 2023, Council will host its largest Citizenship Ceremony to date. The event will see 100 new citizens welcomed to Burwood, as well as the announcement of the 2023 local Citizen and Young Citizen of the Year in recognition of their outstanding contribution to the Burwood community. 

All members of our community are welcome to attend and join the celebration.

The event will start with a Smoking Ceremony and Welcome to Country followed by a didgeridoo performance by Mathew Doyle and Tim Bishop.

Engage with Council staff and SES volunteers at their information stalls to learn more about local services and how we work together to provide a welcome and safe home in Australia.

Participants and guests will enjoy a free Multicultural BBQ and discover how the many cultures of Burwood use the traditional Aussie backyard BBQ to bring their own flavours to their cultural cuisine, while enjoying on-stage entertainment.
