Burwood Multicultural Film Festival

On Sunday 23 June 2019, Burwood Council held the much anticipated Multicultural Film Festival at Woodstock.

This initiative was developed by Council’s newly formed Multicultural Advisory Committee . The aim of the initiative was to provide residents and frequent visitors access to short films that they wouldn’t necessarily see in everyday cinemas, to bring them cultural experiences and insights that might allow them to look at people, communities and the world in a more interesting or enlightened way.

Council developed an activity that provided opportunities for community members to creatively express their perceptions of multiculturalism through a film festival.

19 community videos were submitted and shown at the festival, recognising and celebrating Australia’s multicultural community. Entries were received from local students, teachers, library users, residents and more.

The event was held alongside the Woodstock Artisan Market with over 100 people in attendance.

Funding for the Multicultural Film Festival was provided by the NSW Government. Council would like to acknowledge and thank Multicultural NSW for their support of this project.
