How to Join the Library

Membership is free to Burwood Local Government Area (LGA) residents and those living in the Innerwest, City of Canada Bay and Strathfield LGAs due to an ongoing agreement with these Coucils.

To join the Library you will need to:

  • Visit the Library and fill in a membership form. This form can be downloaded here



  • Complete the online form and
  • Visit the Library with your intermin onine User ID and two (2) forms of ID

  • one (1) form of ID that has your name and current address. For example, Drivers Licence, Rental Agreement, Bank Statement or pension card; and
  • one (1) form of ID that just has your name. For example, Medicare card, credit/debit card, passport

    If under the age of 18, a parent's or guardian's consent will be required. Please visit the Library to apply for membership. Parents and guardians must provide proof of name and current address. (see above)

    Charges may apply for those living outside the Burwood Local Government Area


    Conditions of Borrowing


  • Membership card is required for borrowing items
  • Up to 30 items for a three week period may be borrowed per card
  • Item limits apply to
  • Av material: 10
  • Toys: 3
  • Using your Library Card and PIN, you can
  • Manage your library account - check your loans, place holds and renew items
  • Items can be renewed twice, if not on reserve for another member. Items renewed after the due date may be liable for fines.

  • Access online databases
  • Download ebooks, audiobooks and magazines
  • Access the State Library of NSW online resources



  • Abide by Burwood Library's policies and conditions of use
  • Accept responsibility for all items borrowed on your card
  • Notify the Library as soon as possible if you lose your card or change your address. A fee will be charged to replace lost or stolen cards
  • Fines are applicable for overdue items and replacement costs plus processing charges for any lost, stolen or damaged items
  • Respect the rights and security of staff and other library users
