It was a Local Election like no other – postponed twice due to COVID, now the chapter can finally close with the votes being tallied and official confirmation of the Councillors charged with the responsibility of leading Burwood into the future.

Thousands of residents exercised their democratic right to vote either in person on polling day or pre-polling or via postal votes or online with the spectre of COVID lurking in the background.

Congratulations to the following individuals who have been elected to represent our community for the next term of Council which concludes with Local Government Elections in September 2024

Councillor John Faker said he was honoured to be re-elected as Mayor at special time in Burwood’s history.

“It has been an incredibly challenging and unique period for our country and our community. The pandemic has made life difficult for us all, but we’ve risen to the challenge and I look forward to what promises to be an exciting term of Council capped by the 150th year celebrations of Burwood in 2024,” Cr Faker said.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the community for entrusting me to be your Mayor again for another term. It is a great honour and one that I take extremely seriously.

“With almost 72% of voters endorsing my re-election I am truly humbled and grateful for the opportunity to lead Burwood once more. Personally, I look forward to working with my fellow councillors over the next three years to deliver projects that will enrich the lives of everyone in our community. It’s very exciting,” he concluded.

The new Council will be sworn in early next year before commencing business by sitting for their first Ordinary Meeting of Council in February 2022.
