On 4 October 2022 Treasurer Matthew Kean announced that over $20 million would be injected directly into Burwood to support the delivery of 8 new ambitious projects set to rejuvenate our local communities through the WestInvest fund. This funding will enable us to deliver better local facilities, new open spaces, activated streets and convenient new services close to home.

Burwood Mayor John Faker has welcomed the announcement. “This is a huge win for our community. We need more open space and better access to quality sport, recreation and other community facilities which will enhance our area’s liveability. This funding is critical to building a brighter future for Burwood as we continue to grow and thrive” said Mayor Faker.

As the first strategic centre west of the Sydney CBD, Burwood is undergoing rapid population growth. As our population continues to increase more people will require access to community infrastructure and open spaces.

“Council has worked tirelessly to ensure our community’s needs would be met as part of this once in a generation opportunity, putting forward a range of ambitious projects in the Local Government allocation and community competitive rounds of funding” said Mayor Faker.

“I would like to thank the NSW Government for this significant investment into Burwood, which will benefit our local area after a challenging few years.”

Projects funded in the Burwood area include:

  • $6.6 million for the Burwood Main Street Transformation Project to transform Burwood Road into a vibrant and iconic food and culture destination.
  • $3.9 million for the Dean Street Precinct Transformation which will build on the current NSW Government-funded trial to create a permanent food and entertainment destination in the heart of Burwood Town Centre.
  • $2.7 million for the Henley Park Sports Field Upgrade which will revitalise two aged sports fields to improve sport and recreational facilities.
  • $814,641 for the Henley Park and Russel Reserve Expansion which will transform 1,450m2 of underutilised land into a new open space.
  • $2.2 million for the Strathfield Place Making Project which will transform Bells Lane into a vibrant laneway and shared pedestrian zone, increasing outdoor dining.
  • $2.5 million for the Burwood Park Inclusive Play Space to support a makeover of Burwood Park into an inclusive and welcoming recreational precinct.
  • $1.2 million for the Woodstock Sensory Garden Project which will revitalise an underutilised open space on the edge of the Burwood Town Centre.
  • $876,150 for the Burwood Library Pod which will implement new technology to deliver an innovative and purpose built 24/7 library pod in Enfield.
