Council has contributed a total of $11,138 for six Burwood local businesses to upgrade the appearance of their shopfronts and deliver a renewed Burwood Road for the local community.

Burwood Mayor Cr John Faker said the grant would benefit businesses by enhancing their street appeal with the assistance timely given currently financial constraints.

“It is more important than ever we support our local businesses in every way during this challenging time. This funding will enable businesses to maintain a safe and pleasing streetscape as well as bolster our sense of civic pride and boost economic activity in the town centre”.

“I look forward to the return of local customers to our improved streetscape after this health crisis.”

The shopfront improvement program is a ‘dollar for dollar’ grant scheme as part of Council’s Town Centre Beautification Program.

The program was developed in response to community concerns about the current appearance of Burwood Road and designed to deliver much needed amenities, infrastructure improvements and a more pleasing aesthetic.
