There’s no obstacle to getting fit in Burwood following the opening of the new Challenger Obstacle Course in Grant Park this week.

Council received a $330,000 grant from Sport Australia last year to develop an innovative youth-targeted obstacle course.

The result is a facility that includes climbing, balance and upper body strength challenges as well as a timer.

Mayor John Faker said the one of the aims of the course was to increase youth participation in constructive, recreational-based fitness activities.

“It will also create a significant opportunity for under-represented groups including women, disengaged youth and people with a disability to utilise our free and innovative new fitness structure,” he said.

“We consulted with Burwood Youth Advisory Group, Burwood Girls High School and Enfield Public School to determine the type of equipment and support facilities that were needed.”

The course, which faces north-east from Ann Street, is designed to complement the existing fitness circuit at Henley Park.
