Seniors and Disability

There are local activities, community services and information sessions available for over 55's and people with disabilities across Burwood Council.

Due to COVID-19 Seniors Programs have been suspended until further notice.

This is an informal group of seniors who live in Burwood Council and surrounding suburbs. 

The group provides a range of activities for seniors usually on a monthly basis.

Activities may include:

  • information talks on topics that are of interest to seniors
  • bus trips to interesting/educational places around Sydney
  • many more engaging activities.

Burwood Council runs the annual Seniors Festival, usually held early in the year.

Everyone is welcome from beginners to expert knitters at the Burwood Wrap with Love Group.  

So, come along and join in the fun and meet like-minded people who enjoy knitting.

All finished wraps are given to Wrap with Love, a voluntary organisation with members knitting squares to make wraps and rugs that are distributed within Australia and worldwide to communities in need. 

When:  Mondays  

Time: 9.30am to 11.30am 

Location:  Woodstock Community Centre, 22 Church Street, Burwood. 

The Burwood Seniors Computer Club welcomes seniors 55 and over who would like to learn how to use a computer.  

This Club is run by volunteers who are seniors themselves.

In Celebration of International Day of People with a Disability, Council coordinates the Groovability Festival. 

The festival is held the first Thursday in December at Burwood Park.

We are committed to creating a more inclusive community for all people.

The Burwood Council Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) aims to achieve our goal of a more inclusive community. 

The main objective of the DIAP is to ensure that people with a disability have an opportunity to fully participate in the social, community and business life of Burwood. The plan outlines key strategies and actions that will assist in overcoming barriers to inclusion.These strategies will be incorporated into Council's planning for the next four years.
