Burwood Council is committed to creating a more inclusive community for all people. We are preparing our first Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) as required by the Disability Inclusion Act 2014.
What will the Plan do?
The main objective of the DIAP is to ensure that people with disability have every opportunity to fully participate in the social, community and business life of Burwood. The plan will outline key strategies and actions that will assist in overcoming barriers to inclusion. Strategies will be incorporated into Council's planning for the next four years.
The DIAP will be developed based on these areas:
•Developing positive community attitudes and behaviours towards people with disability
•Creating more live-able communities for people with disability
•Achieving a higher rate of meaningful employment participation by people with disability through inclusive employment practices
•Ensuring more equitable access to mainstream services for people with disability through better systems and processes.
How you can get involved
Community consultation is important in developing the DIAP. We invite you to provide your feedback and ideas to assist Council in identifying the best approach to improve local assets, services, facilities, programs and events to create a more accessible and inclusive community.
Take the brief survey below to have your say. This survey is open to people with disability, families and carers, service providers and any interested community members.
