Traffic and Transport

The Traffic and Transport team is responsible for managing traffic and parking on local streets through initiatives such as traffic calming, parking control, optimisation of kerbside parking, as well as the installation of intersection control, pedestrian and access mobility facilities and street lights.

This team administers the operation of the Burwood Traffic Committee under the Delegation of the Roads and Maritime Services. The Committee meets monthly except in January and December. The Committee comprises four voting members who are the representatives of Council, the Roads and Maritime Services, NSW Police, and State Members for Strathfield and Canterbury. Non-voting members comprise the representatives from the State Transit Authority, Chamber of Commerce and Council's Traffic and Transport staff. The Committee considers the public concerns regarding traffic and parking on local streets and recommends appropriate measures to Council for adoption.

This team also provides comments to Council in assessing new developments to measure and control impacts on traffic and parking. In addition, it conducts road safety and behavioural campaigns to increase awareness and improve driver/road user behaviour. Through collective initiatives, the team aims to reduce the number and severity of traffic crashes in the whole Burwood Council area.
