  • Did you know in 1894 Burwood’s newly elected mayor William Paisley, was shot by an enraged council clerk? You can now discover Burwood’s rich historic past with a new heritage walk that will uncover a treasure trove of facts and information. Council has produced a map that will be made available at the library and local schools over the next few weeks. The walk aims to celebrate the unique heritage of the Burwood area, capture the history of the town centre, the diverse cultural identity of its people and the impact that new developments have had on the changing character of the streetscape. In addition to looking at how developments over the past 50 years have changed the way people shop, the historical walk will look at how the town centre has developed, the important role Burwood station has played in the growth of the suburb and some of the past events that make up Burwood’s history. The self-guided tour map will be available from Customer Service at Council chambers, Burwood Library and you can download it here.
