  • As Councillors are aware Burwood Council has been identified as a Major Centre under the draft Inner West Sub Regional Strategy. The draft document forms one part of the larger Metropolitan Strategy developed to provide a planning framework to manage growth for Sydney over the next 25 years. The draft Inner West Sub Regional Strategy is made up of 5 local government areas of Ashfield, Burwood, Canada Bay, Leichhardt and Strathfield.

  • Each year the Salvation Army undertakes its Red Shield Appeal to raise funds for its critical charity work.This year, I have received a request from Major Peter Davey from the Salvation Army to allow Red ShieldAppeal Collectors to utilise Council footpath space near the entrance to Burwood Station without payment of Council permit fees from the period 16 to 25 May. This request follows a denial from RailCorp to use their concourse area...

  • Council is not allowed to name Food Shops which have had infringements or penalties issued tothem. There is no provision in the Food Act and the current Privacy Laws do not allow Council toname such premises. The matter is currently subject to some debate and there may be changes to legislation which will ultimately allow the naming and shaming of Food Shops however Council cannot legally do so at this time...

  • Over the past few weeks I have been shocked and appalled by separate instances of tree vandalism atHenley Park and Appian Way, where beautiful trees have been damaged. As many instances of tree vandalism are undertaken by selfish individuals who do not like trees due to their tendency to block views or drop leaves, it is important to send a message to such people that their actions will not be tolerated by the community, and that they will receive no benefit from the destruction of the tree.
