The Library subscribes to a number of online databases in lieu of purchasing hard copy materials. This allows us to supplement our Reference collection and provide wider access to all our members. All online databases can be accessed from within the Library and many provide access to registered library members from their home computer with the use of membership card number or a password.

It is a good resource for students seeking high quality information. This database covers all the main civilizations of the world from 5000BC up to 1500 CE. You can access biographies of historical figures, browse primary sources and view timelines. This database is useful for anyone with an interest in history. ANZ Reference Centre is a general database of Australian and international content with articles in health, current affairs, science, social science, business and literature. Users can select or deselect the type of material they wish to access. Encyclopædia Britannica Online offers an integrated search on the full Encyclopædia Britannica database, plus Britannica Student Encyclopedia and Britannica Elementary Encyclopedia, which have an easier comprehension level. The search results also show over 150 Journals and Magazines plus the Britannica Internet Guide with links to over 200,000 sites that have been reviewed by Britannica. The Building Code of Australia (BCA) contains technical provisions for the design and construction of buildings and other structures, covering such matters as structure, fire resistance, access and egress, services and equipment, and certain aspects of health and amenity, throughout Australia whilst allowing for variations in climate and geological or geographic conditions.
Burwood Library Online Tutoring is an online tutoring service that connects students to expert tutors in math, science and english via the Internet. Students in Years 4 to 12 can visit the Library or access this service from home to get immediate, free help from qualified tutors. Tutors will be online from 4pm until 8pm, Monday to Friday during school term. **Computer Training (Membership Card Number required)
Computer Training is an online training course which includes Introduction to Computers, using and searching the internet; Microsoft Office 2007, Microsoft Windows Vista and setting up an email account.
An up-to-date and comprehensive resource covering health issues and medical matters. It includes a medical dictionary, fact sheets and herbal remedies. **Greenfile (Membership Card Number required)
Greenfile offers well-researched information covering all aspects of human impact to the environment. Its collection of scholarly, government and general interest titles includes content on global warming, pollution, sustainable agriculture, renewable energy and more. The database provides indexing and abstracts for more than 384,000 records as well as full text for more than 4,700 records.

An Australian database for students or those with an interest in Australian History as well as Ancient and Modern History. It contains ebooks, reference materials, primary sources, illustrations and photographs and video footage.

Literacy Planet, formerly known as Intrepica, allows access to 10,000+ interactive English literacy activities online. It encourages the learning of essential English literacy skills through a motivational learning platform that is fun, compelling and addictive for students of all ages and ability.
Full text database that combines information from major respected reference works, books, literary journals as well as original content from EBSCO Publishing. **Masterfile Premier (Membership Card Number required) Masterfile Premier is designed specifically for public libraries and provides full text for nearly 1,700 general reference publications with information dating as far back as 1975. Covering virtually every subject area of general interest, MasterFILE Premier also contains full text for nearly 500 reference books and over 164,400 primary source documents, as well as an Image Collection of over 502,000 photos, maps & flags.

This database covers history from 1450 to the present day and can be searched by time period, region or a specific search term. It includes timelines, maps and images, bringing history to life. An important resource is its large collection of Primary Sources online. This service provides you with images of historical documents which contain information which can help you trace people who lived and worked in New South Wales during the period 1850 - 1920. These records complement and build on information you can obtain from the Pioneers and Births, Deaths and Marriages indexes and the Genealogical Research Kit. The ultimate Reader's Advisory tool online. For anyone who loves to read, this database will be welcomed. Check your favourite authors and find a complete list of their works! Find new authors to enjoy using the "Author Readalikes" section. Or just peruse lists of books in a genre of your choice. Novelist plus includes both fiction and non-fiction authors and books. This database includes over 1 million entries across 25 subject areas.
