2012 National Year of Reading

Did you know that 2012 is the National Year of Reading? 2012 will see a whole heap of amazing, fun reading activities taking place in the library, around Australia and online, so people of all ages, from different backgrounds, can discover and rediscover the joy of reading.

National Year of Reading - 'Our Story'

Be in at the start of Australia's biggest book group for the National Year of Reading, 'Our Story'. Every state and territory around the country is invited to vote on a shortlist of six books each, chosen by an independent panel of readers, which will form a collection that when read together, describes the Australian experience. This is your chance to vote for the book that will go forward to represent New South Wales and become part of the National Year of Reading collection. The list of eight winning titles will be announced at the official launch of the National Year of Reading on Tuesday 14 February 2012 at the National Library of Australia in Canberra.

The shortlist for New South Wales is: Peter Corris Torn apart
  Kate Grenville Lilian's story
Ian Hoskins Sydney Harbour: a history
John Hughes The idea of home
Ruth Park The harp in the south
  Chris Womersley Bereft

Voting opens on Tuesday 1 November 2011 and closes at on 6 January 2012. You can place your votes at Burwood library or online at: www.abc.net.au/yearofreading.
